DownloadsThe Great Tribulation What is it? Will we go though it?
This is a detailed study of the great tribulation as found in scripture. Below is the summary and introduction. The full study is over 70 pages and can be downloaded as a zipped rtf document here (105k).
Summary
When we talk about 'The Great tribulation' we are primarily talking about Rev 7:14. However there are about eight events described in the bible that come to mind when we mention this event. These are each examined to see what the scripture says.
The Great Tribulation?
- The great tribulation of Rev 7:14.
- The great distress of Mat 24:21, Mark 13:19 and Luke 21:20-24
- The time of anguish and perplexity in Luke 21:25
- The man of lawlessness in 2 Thess 2:3
- The seven trumpets and bowls of Revelation.
- The beast(s) of Rev 13
- The time of distress spoken about in Daniel 12:1
- The hour of trial (Rev 3:10).
The Greek word thlipsis used for tribulation in Rev 7:14 (the great tribulation) is a word that covers a wide range of conditions varying from marriage, hardship, childbirth and persecution to the great distress of Mat 24:21. An examination of scripture confirms that tribulation in its various forms is to be expected by Christians while on earth. Paul and James tell us to rejoice in our sufferings and trials because these produce perseverance, character and maturity. Paul contrasts our temporary afflictions in this life with the eternal glory they achieve for us. Scripture is then examined to see what it says about persecution and its message is that we should not be taken by surprise by persecution even to death. Jesus tells us to rejoice when we are persecuted because great is our reward in heaven.
(2 Tim 3:12 NIV) In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,The great distress described in Mat 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21 is examined and it is clear that the elect are on earth during this period and that the rapture occurs after this event. These passages also make it clear that persecution will occur and false prophets will arise before the great distress. However there is significant evidence based on Luke's parallel account that the distress spoken about was fulfilled in AD 70 by the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans (Luke 21:20-24). Luke's account however mentions a second and distinct time, prior to the Second Coming, when there will be signs in the sun and moon and stars and perplexity and anguish on earth because of the tossing of the sea and shaking of the heavenly bodies (Luke 21:25-26).
Although the period of great tribulation in Mat 24:21 is usually thought to be world-wide and to occur at the end of the age a closer look demonstrates otherwise.
- Jesus was answering a question about the destruction of Herod's temple.
- Luke's parallel account (21:20-24) clearly shows that Mat 24:21 refers to the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70.
- It is localised to the Judea region - it is not world-wide, because those in Judea are told to flee to the mountains in all three parallel accounts (Mat 24:16, Mark 13:14, Luke 21:21).
- The fact that Jesus says that it is "never to be equaled again" should indicate to us that it does not occur at the end of the world.
- Both Mat 23:36 and 24:34 say that this will happen in the generation alive when Jesus spoke.
Amillennialism
by Prof. Robert B. StrimpleI. Christ: The Theme of O.T. Prophecy
A. Premillennial's Literal Hermeneutic: Dispensational premillennialists regard the as yet unfulfilled OT prophesies given to Israel under the old covenant as having a literal fulfillment in the millennium. This will entail a return to the Old Covenant, including:1. Jerusalem as capital city of the kingdom B. Is Such A Literal Hermeneutic The Correct One?
2. The temple rebuilt
3. A reestablished priesthood
4. Animal sacrifices again offered
5. Christ entering the temple each Sabbath by the eastern gate while the priests offer sacrifices (Ez 46)
6.Observation of dietary laws
7. Circumcision (Ez 44:23, 9)
The 70 Weeks of Daniel Chapter 9
by Tony Warren
We begin this study of the seventy weeks of Daniel Chapter 9 with verse 24, where the prophecy of this vision begins.
Daniel 9:24
- "Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy."
There are many questions that can be asked about this first verse, but there is no need for supposition or idle speculation. Because God has answered them all, right in the context itself. Let's look at these seven questions.
1. Who are these, "Thy People?"
2. How is it determined to "finish (restrain) the transgression?"
3. What is the, "make an end" (sealing up) of Sins?
4. What is the, "making reconciliation" for iniquity?
5. How is this "Everlasting Righteousness" brought in?
6. Why is it determined to "Seal up the vision and the prophet?"
7. What is the "Anointing of the Most Holy?"

The Tribulation, Great Tribulation:
Message ListReply | Forward
Message #11 of 16 < Prev | Next >Matthew 24:21
For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the
beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
Matthew 24:29
Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be
darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall
fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Revelation 2:22
Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery
with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
Revelation 7:14
And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are
they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their
robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
If memory serves me right; these are the main verses people
use when referring to a futuristic specific period of 7 years that
has come to be known as "The Tribulation" with the last half of this
period being referred to as "The Great Tribulation" but as none of
these verses mention a specific period of 7 years, where do we get
this 7 year time frame from?
Daniel 9:27
#1) And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: #2) and
in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the
oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall
make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined
shall be poured upon the desolate.

Articles Of Faith

Pensacola Orthodox Preterist Baptist Assembly
THIS IS A STATEMENT OF BELIEFS CONCERNING WHAT WE BELIEVE AND PRACTICE ACCODRING TO THE "PRETERIST VIEW" WHICH MEANS ALL THINGS WERE WERE FULFILLED AND ACCOMPLISHED
BY JESUS CHRIST BY A.D.70
We are BIBLICAL -BAPTISTIC-INPENDENT-MISSIONARY- SPIRITUAL- PRETERIST
A Defence of Preterism
In view of so much Organized confusion in the Religious world today, especially among so-called Baptists as to what the Scriptures are and what they teach, and when they where Fulfilled. We send forth these Articles of Faith declaring what we believe the Scriptures are, and when the Lord Jesus Christ "said They must be Fulfilled".Mt.5:18; Lk.24:44
Why do You say that Perterism is so Important? Because if it not True, then we dont have what we claims to have, Every Thing depends on Jesus Christ Fulfilled every thing like He said He Would that God promised His New Covenant People. All Spiritual Bessing depends on the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, Eph.1:3 In which he Generated the Power to Secure and Purchased every thing that is Spiritual for all the Elect.
1.This is a statement of beliefs concering what we Believe and Pratice according to the PERTERIST VIEW which means that all things that God's Promised in the Law and The Prophets were Fulfilled and Accomplished by Jesus Christ by A. D.70. That is Going from being natural in the flesh. Unto being Spiritual in Jesus, and being in one of the Lord's Local Assemblies of Christ, all Assemblies make up the Spiritual Kingdom of Christ.Under the Terms,Benefits, and Blessing of the New Covenant Jn.17:20-21.Eph.1:10-12; 2:13-18; 3:5-6; Heb.8:7-13; 10:9; Rev.5:10-11
2.The preterist view of interpreing the Word of God ( Jesus christ is living Word of God. Jn.1:1;Rev19:13; and is Necessary and Essential to Rightly understanding what he came to teach and do. Then Fulfilll all He Promised.
3."Jesus Christ said" to His Disciples in Jn.4:33-34; 5:30,36 My meat is to do the will of Him that sent Me, and to Finish his Work".God's Will was to have a Spiritual Family of Sons And Daughters to Dwell with.1Cor.3:16; 2Cor.616
4."Jesus Christ said Mt,5:17-18 Think not that I AM come to Destroy the law", or the Prophets": I AM not come to destroy, but to Fulfil". He was talking to This Generation of Israel in the First Century in Mt.15:24; 10;5-7
5."Then He said, For verly I say unto you, "until heaven and the earth pass", one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, "till all be Fulfilled". And that include the 2nd appearing of Jesus Christ . Mt.4-31.
6."Jesus "Said" in Mt.24:34-35 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass untill all these things be fulfilled "Heaven and Earth shall pass away"( that is Jewish Economy and the Old natural Covenant) and the New Spiritual Covenant shall be Establish, but my words shall not pass away. Heb.10:9; 2 Cor.3:6, 13; Gal..4:25-31
7.There are Several Scriptures references that show that the phase "HEAVEN and EARTH" is a "FIGURATIVE EXPERESSION" meaning the Jewish Economy.Moses used the term in Deut. 31:30; 32:1 heaven and Earth talking to Israel. Isa.1:1-4; 34:1-4; 51:6; Hag.2:6-7,21-22; Psa.102:25-26; 2Pet.3:11-13; Heb.12:26-29; And Christ used in Mt.5:18 and 24:35.We see the Old Covenant is pass away, and the New Covenant is taking its Place
The Word of God says that these things that they will come to Pass in Last day of the first Century. Gen.49:1; Isa.2:2; Mic.4:1; Act.2:17; Heb.1:2; 2Pet.3:3. The natural shall pass away, and the Spiritual Shall Come , in with Jesus Christ..
8.Jesus Christ also said in Lk.24:25-27, 44 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. That MUST be FULFILLED.The new Covenant, Lord's Local Assemblies, and The Spiritual Kingdom of Christ. Rev.5:10
Lk.24:44 And he "said unto them", These [are] the words which I spake unto you, while I wa yet with you, that all things "MUST be FULFILLED", which were written in the law of "MOSES", and [in] the "PROPHETS", and [in] the "PSALMS"Mark 4:11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all [these] things are done in parables:concerning ME. The Follower are some things Concerning Jesus Christ, that he said Must be Fulfilled..Before This Generation pass away. Mt.24:34; Heb.8:7-13
Deut.18:15-22; Isa.7:14; 9:6-8; 42:1-9; 61:1-6; Jer.31:31-34; Ezek.36:26-28; 37:14, 26-28; Dan2:44-45; 7:13-14,22; Joel 2:27-28; 3:16-17, 21; Zach.6:12-13.The Question for YOU, does the Word of God say that He Did ?
John the Apostle was present and heard Jesus Christ says in Mt.16:27-28; 24:3; Mr.13:3-4; Lk.11:9-10 and says in 24:35; and Jn.21:20-22 and then John saw it New Heaven and the New earth Fulfilled in His Life Time.Rev.21:1-6
Mt.16:27-28 For the Son of man "shall" come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. :Rev.21:4-6"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
